Photo Prayer: Peter Loden and Reid Farrell

The stump in this photo (at the intersection of State and Eld Streets in New Haven) reminded us of the prophecy from Isaiah 11:1 – “A green shoot shall spring up of the stump of Jesse; a branch shall sprout from his roots and bear fruit.” We used it as our Christmas card for 2025.  But it also serves as a visual juxtaposition between Good Friday and Easter as we learn that “out of death comes Life.”

“O God of grace and glory... give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
