Organ Scholar 2026-2027

The Organ Scholar position at Trinity on the Green gives developing organists an opportunity to learn at an institution known as a center for church music and choral education. Trinity has been a stepping stone for many organists to launch successful careers. Recent Trinity Organ Scholars include Janet Yieh (Church of the Heavenly Rest, New York City), Carolyn Craig (Assistant Organist, Wells Cathedral), Jerrick Cavagnaro (Trinity Copley Square, Boston), Manuel Piazza (St. James Anglican Church, Toronto), and Seattle-based composer Jessica French.

The Organ Scholar will work closely with Director of Music Simon Lee and Associate Director of Music and Principal Organist Sarah Johnson to continue Trinity’s legacy of musical excellence. The historic choirs of Trinity celebrated their 140th anniversary last year, and Trinity’s 1935 pipe organ, Aeolian-Skinner Op. 927, will soon be celebrating a fully restored console. Trinity encourages a wide variety of repertoire in both choral and organ music, while recognizing its foundation in the Anglican choral tradition. For examples of recent selections from services and concerts, please visit our YouTube channel.

The Organ Scholar regularly accompanies the full choir in rehearsal and service and assists with the training of the Choristers. The holder of the post is expected to attend two rehearsals and at least one Sunday service each week. The renumeration for the post is $19,ooo, with the option of extra services such as funerals and weddings. The Organ Scholar has access to the organ for practice throughout the week. Coaching in organ performance with Trinity’s Associate Director of Music Sarah Johnson and conducting lessons with the Director of Music Simon Lee are also available.
