The Trinity Players Present a Dinner Theater Performance of a Medieval Masterpiece

THE SECOND SHEPHERD’S PLAY

In a Dinner Theater Performance

on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026

The Trinity Players will offer a special theater event, raising funds for Trinity ministries. Food and Theater will be served in The Undercroft beginning at 6PM.

THE PLAY

In The Second Shepherds' Play, three impoverished medieval shepherds must outsmart a local thief named Mak, who attempts to hide a stolen sheep by disguising it as a newborn baby in a cradle. After punishing the thief, the shepherds are visited by an angel who guides them to Bethlehem to celebrate the actual newborn Savior, Jesus Christ.

The brilliance of the mirrored plot, the deft mixture of slapstick humor and authentic spirituality, and the compassionate insight into the daily lives of common men, make this play the greatest achievement of medieval pageant drama. The Second Shepherd’s Play, adapted by our own Neil Olsen, was written by the anonymous Wakefield Master around 1475. It is considered the greatest of the English Mystery plays, and indeed, it is one of the greatest plays in English.
