Part-Time Sexton

PART-TIME SEXTON 

Sextons provide an essential service to the Church by ensuring a clean, comfortable, safe environment that promotes the mission of the Church.  Responsibilities include some light cleaning, set-up for meetings, and staffing the building while in use. Reports to and is supervised by the Head Sexton.

Hours/Pay: 

Fifteen to twenty hours per week, primarily late afternoon/evenings, with Sunday a required day.  Additional hours may be requested for special events. Starting pay: $18/hour.

Duties:

Assist in creating a welcoming and safe environment for church members, choir members, and visitors, with special attention to the safety of children and elderly.

Provide security during the arrival and departure of parishioners and choristers from the church building. Secure building upon leaving, including setting alarm.

Light cleaning and building chores as assigned by the Head Sexton.

Set-up for and staffing of recurring events and meetings, as well as for special gatherings, such as receptions, special services, and exhibits. Monitor parking in small lot and address issues related to same. 

Minimum Qualifications:

·      Ability to perform basic cleaning and repair chores.

·      Ability to respond promptly and appropriately to problems related to the building and property.

·      Ability to perform tasks independently, with little to no supervision.

·      Physically able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.; work from a tall ladder; and kneel, squat, climb, and stand to perform duties.

·      Willingness to join a team and cooperate with other staff members and volunteers.

·      Any offer of employment will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of criminal background check. Completion of Safe Church training (Episcopal Diocese of CT) will be required within 45 days of start date.
