Schedules, Schedules, Schedules, January 2008
First and foremost, the delicate timing of the elevator accessibility project to gain access to our undercroft is more complicated than we had thought. Parishioner Robert Orr's firm is working diligently to vet out realities with the local building officials, structural engineer, and the extremely important (but sometimes problematic) existing fabric of our load-bearing masonry wall building.
Because it is essential that we keep the timing of construction to the after-Easter and before-Christmas period for obvious reasons, it may very well be that the actual construction and installation of the elevator is put off to follow the last regular service of June of 2009 and guaranteed completion before the Holiday Bazaar and Thanksgiving. This "tight" schedule is potentially feasible because of the long lag time between bidding (probably happening this Spring) and when we can actually get under construction.
Similarly the front entry doors that we had hoped to get in before Christmas will now happen before Easter. Final specs have been agreed to, the contract has been set and we should have a wonderful new entry to Trinity before we sing "He Is Risen.
Lastly, and exhilarating enough, the schedule is in the offing for the renovation of the Holy Family window, to be removed in early January and reinstalled by the time we sing "Jesus Christ Is Risen Today" once again.
In the meantime, the Properties Committee has: worked to diminish drafts at the side altar with some foam insulation infill; sanitized chorister grime-laden stair handrails for the holiday season; and kept the Croswell up-to-date and festive. Additionally, we are looking into a new grant proposal opportunity that may assist in project funding and working through the ancillary projects that we contemplated piggy-backing onto the elevator bidding, including a fire suppression sprinkler system for the Undercroft, new ceiling/lighting and flooring for same, and perhaps even replacing our 105 year-old bright brass water line!
