Boys Choir |

The Trinity Boys Choir has sung services and concerts throughout the eastern United States. In addition to those already named, they have sung at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. (1976, 1979, 1984, and 1999), Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia (1979, 1991, and 1999), and St. Thomas Church in New York (1989). Christmases 1989, 1990, 1993, 1995, and 1998 saw the boys singing special concerts at the White House for VIP tour groups, including a reception hosted by President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in 1995. The boys' return visit to the White House in December 1998 was followed by their national television debut on NBC's Today Show three weeks later. In January 2000, the Trinity Boys Choir, together with the Elm City Girls Choir (founded and conducted by Boys Choir alumnus Thomas Brand), served as the children's chorus in performances of Gustav Mahler's Eighth Symphony with the Boston Philharmonic at Symphony Hall in Boston and Carnegie Hall. The boys achieved international recognition in 1973, when they became the first American choir invited to participate in the Rassegna Internazionale di Cappelle Musicali, a renowned music festival in Loreto, Italy, at which eleven countries were represented. In 1977, 1982, 1989, 1993, and 1997, the boys traveled to the British Isles to sing with cathedral choirs in Canterbury, Norwich, Coventry, Southwark, Wells, Lichfield, Llandaff (Wales), Southwell, Ely, and Bury-St. Edmunds. The Boys Choir will return to the British Isles in the summer of 2001. The boys of the choir represent many towns in the greater New Haven area; church membership is not a requirement. After conducting spring auditions in which a natural musical ear and voice are sought, Organist and Choirmaster R. Walden Moore is ably assisted in training the new "novice" class by Assistant Organist and Choirmaster Jared Johnson. The choirmen's section consists of university students, area professionals, and former choirboys from Trinity and other churches. |
