Interim Rector's Message

Welcome to the web site of Trinity Episcopal Church on the Green! Trinity is located in downtown New Haven, one block from the Old Campus of Yale University and close to the intersection of I-95 and I-91. Our parishioners come from all parts of New Haven and from more than 20 surrounding towns.

This is a very transformative time in the life of Trinity Church. As examples, its dearly loved Rector of many years, the Rev. Andy Fiddler retired in the spring. I have come to serve as the Interim Rector until such a time as a new Rector is selected. We are in the midst of a great remodeling.  Preparation for a new Bishop of our Diocese is upon us. And we are experiencing the transformation of New Haven into a city that is alive with new energy and new dreams.

Trinity’s mission is succinct: "God's love calls us to proclaim with joy the Good News of Jesus Christ, to welcome all people into the community of faith, and to serve Christ through serving others." No part of that statement is complete without the rest of it. We can only proclaim the love of Christ if we live out his message by welcoming and serving you in his name.

On Sunday mornings, we make a joyful noise unto the Lord at 7:45, 9:00, and 11:00. The 7:45 service is small and intimate; the 9:00 is a relaxed and Contemporary family service. The 11:00 service uses the traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer, Rite One, and is a bit more classic without being inflexible. We also have an outdoor service at 2:00 pm on the Upper Green directly behind Trinity.  This relaxed service is usually about 30 minutes and is followed by distributing a bagged lunch to those in need.

The congregation we attract at all three services is extremely diverse: all ages, all races, all lifestyles. But we add up to one family called together by God's love.

This is a congregation that is filled with joy and wants to share that joy with you. It is also a congregation that wants to serve Christ by the way we live every day of the week in the real world.
