Spirit Singers
The Spirit Singers lead the music for the 9:00 am liturgy including hymns, service music and anthems. They sing three Sundays out of the month from September through the first week in June. During the summer months they sing informally every other Sunday. Also included in their regular schedule is the 5:00 pm Christmas Eve Service.
The Spirit Singers are under the musical direction of Roy Mazzacane and are accompanied by Phyllis Silver at the piano. On many occasions we are blessed with volunteers on guitar, recorder, violin and tambourine. Rehearsals take place on Thursday nights in Hamden from 8:00 pm to around 9:30 pm from September through May. There is also a warm up rehearsal on Sunday mornings at 8:20 am directly before the 9:00 am service.
This group of singers is noted for its diversity. Members come from all walks of life, represent all ages and have varying degrees of musical experience. Their common thread is the desire to lift their voices heartily in song and worship. They sing pieces in various styles including gospel, spiritual, contemporary Christian, folk, old time camp songs, rounds, barbershop, country and more. Lift Every Voice and Sing is the main source for hymns at the 9:00 am service. The 1982 Episcopal Hymnal and Trinity's own red hymnal supplement are also used.
An audition is not required to join the Spirit Singers and volunteer instrumentalists are always encouraged to participate. For more information, please contact Roy Mazzacane through the Church Office.
